Ukrainian Guests from Magdeburg's Twin City Enjoy 11-Day Holiday in Germany
Magdeburg, Germany, is currently hosting a group of 20 children and youth, along with two adult chaperones, from Saporishshya, its twin city in Ukraine. This visit, funded by the state of Saxony-Anhalt, marks another chapter in the long-standing cultural exchange between the two cities.
The guests, who are on an 11-day holiday in Magdeburg, were welcomed by the city's mayor and received a warm reception from the local community. A group photo was taken with Mayor Simone Borris and Frau Lemesle from the State Chancellery of Saxony-Anhalt at the International Youth Meeting Center "Barleber See," where the guests are staying.
The official twinning partnership between Magdeburg and Saporishshya was established on May 29, 2008, with the aim of fostering cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and mutual understanding. Over the years, this partnership has led to significant collaboration in areas such as urban development, culture, education, and recently humanitarian and technical support, given the geopolitical context involving Ukraine.
During their stay, the guests have been treated to a guided tour of the town hall and a city tour in a red double-decker bus. They also had the opportunity to sign the guestbook of the Old Town Hall in Magdeburg. Another group from Saporishshya had previously spent their holiday at the summer camp at Barleber See.
Saporishshya, located in the southeast of Ukraine, is about 70 kilometers south of the city of Dnipro on the Dnieper River. This twin city partnership has provided a unique platform for both cities to learn from each other and strengthen their bonds.
The visit of the guests from Saporishshya is a testament to the enduring friendship between Magdeburg and its twin city. Such exchanges not only enrich the cultural fabric of both cities but also serve as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation and understanding in today's world.
The guests from Saporishshya, Ukraine, are observing an Other lifestyle during their 11-day holiday, immersing themselves in a different culture and participating in various activities arranged by the city of Magdeburg. In the days to come, they will continue to explore this new environment, further broadening their horizons and reinforcing the bond between the twin cities.
