WTTC Announces EMBRATUR as Its Latest Destination Collaborator

The Brazilian Tourist Board (EMBRATUR) has recently become a member of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), marking a significant step for Brazil's global standing in the tourism sector. This partnership, under EMBRATUR's promotional brand 'Visit Brasil', sees the organisation join more than 30 prominent Destination Partners within WTTC's global network.

The WTTC Destination Partners network is a global coalition of organisations from various sectors of the travel and tourism industry. This network collaborates to promote sustainable and responsible tourism, with notable members including the WTTC itself, the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, and Travalyst. These coalitions partner with pioneering tourism companies spanning booking platforms, maritime transport, and hospitality providers, such as Accor, Club Med, Iberostar Hotels and Resorts, Ponant, DHI Dorint, ORASCOM, and others.

WTTC's commitment to sustainability is further demonstrated through its collaboration with organisations like the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), which sets global standards for sustainable travel certification. This integration with certification bodies ensures sustainability across the WTTC partner network.

Julia Simpson, President & CEO of WTTC, expressed her delight at welcoming EMBRATUR as their new Destination Partner. Marcelo Freixo, President of EMBRATUR, commented on the partnership, expressing his commitment to promoting Brazil as a destination that harmonises tourism with 21st-century challenges, fostering development through environmental sustainability and human diversity.

The tourism sector contributes 7.7% to Brazil's GDP, amounting to a staggering US$165.4 billion, according to WTTC's latest Economic Impact Research (EIR) 2024 conducted in collaboration with Oxford Economics. This partnership provides a platform for EMBRATUR to strengthen Brazil's standing in global tourism discussions.

WTTC's mission is to unlock the potential of the Travel & Tourism sector for inclusive, sustainable, and resilient growth. The council's membership includes a variety of world-renowned brands in aviation, hospitality, and travel, such as Google, IBM, VISA, Marriott, Hilton, Airbnb, Carnival Corporation, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Expedia Group, and Royal Caribbean Cruises.

By joining the WTTC, EMBRATUR will participate in high-level forums featuring CEOs and executives from around 200 of the most influential companies and destinations in the tourism sector. This premier network of key stakeholders in the global tourism industry aims to foster economic development, create jobs, and reduce poverty worldwide through collaboration with governments, destinations, communities, and industry leaders.

Together, WTTC Member companies and destinations account for 30% of the global tourism GDP. Other Destination Partners within WTTC's global network include Atout France, Brand USA, Abu Dhabi, Destination Canada, Dubai, Visit California, ProColombia, Buenos Aires, Thailand, Portugal, and Rwanda.

In conclusion, EMBRATUR's membership in WTTC enhances Brazil's global presence as a leading tourism destination, while also providing a platform to strengthen its standing in global tourism discussions. This partnership aligns with WTTC's mission to promote sustainable and responsible tourism, fostering economic development and environmental sustainability.
