Urban Symphony by Buddenbrooks: Literary Concert Happening September 27 at Church Zum Heilsbrunnen

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 7:00 PM, Ev. Church Zum Heilsbrunnen in Bergisch Gladbach-Hebborn will play host to a unique literary concert titled "Music with the Buddenbrooks." This event is the latest collaboration between Literaturkonzert Köln and Wir für Bergisch Gladbach e.V., as part of the "Sounds of the City" series.

The concert is a new adaptation of Thomas Mann's Nobel Prize-winning work, "Buddenbrooks." Sibylle Bertsch, an actress trained at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, will bring the novel's characters to life through excerpts from the book. She will be joined by pianist Cosmin Boeru, a graduate of the Conservatorio B. Marcello in Venice, who will perform music that played a part in the novel and in Thomas Mann's life.

Cosmin Boeru's participation in "Sounds of the City" concerts has been successful in the past, with his openness and interest in new paths, collaborations, and travels making him an in-demand chamber musician and soloist throughout Europe. He currently teaches at the renowned Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne.

In "Buddenbrooks," music plays a significant role, sparking heated discussions, enthusiasm, and destruction within the Buddenbrook family. Sibylle Bertsch, the founder of Literaturkonzert Köln, where music and literature intersect and tell stories on different levels, is well-equipped to bring this aspect of the novel to life.

This concert marks the fourth event presented by Ingrid Schaeffer-Rahtgens and Ingrid Koshofer with Sibylle Bertsch and Cosmin Boeru in Bergisch Gladbach. Registration for the concert can be done online at www.wir-fuer-gl.de or by phone at 02204 483909 or 02202 982444. Admission to the concert is free, but donations are welcome.

Cosmin Boeru has given several concerts and recitals with young talents as part of "Sounds of the City," all of which have been great successes. The concert will feature music that played a part in the novel and in Thomas Mann's life, and will also include excerpts from the book that illustrate the power and impact of music.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to experience "Buddenbrooks" like never before. Join Sibylle Bertsch, Cosmin Boeru, and the organizers Ingrid Schaeffer-Rahtgens and Ingrid Koshofer for an unforgettable evening of music and literature.
