Travel enthusiasts, get ready! American Express is set to release NFT-based travel stamps for avid voyagers.

American Express, also known as Amex, has ventured into the realm of cryptotechnology with the introduction of NFT stamps for their travel services. The program, named Amex Passport, was launched in June 2021 and has already garnered global attention.

Within the first few weeks of its launch, over 20,000 NFT stamps have been minted, recording travel experiences of users from around the world. These digital stamps, functioning as a personal digital travel diary, are securely stored on the Base network, a layer-2 solution on Ethereum.

Each NFT stamp, an ERC-721 token, records the country or region, travel date, and additional details such as favorite dishes and memorable places. To earn a stamp, users can make a purchase with their Amex card or via Apple Pay/Google Pay in one of the 130+ countries and regions supported by Amex.

The NFT stamps aim to immortalize emotions and experiences related to travel, providing a unique and personalized way for users to document their journeys. The stamps are strictly personal and non-transferable, and cannot be sold. Only U.S. consumer cards linked to an Amex online account can participate.

Information about the fact of visiting a country will be open for viewing via smart contract, providing a balance between privacy and transparency. This means that users can verify their travel history, while others can see that they have visited a particular country without accessing personal details.

The advancement of blockchain technology is leading to new ways of recording and storing travel memories. Traditional passport stamps are being replaced with NFT technology, marking a significant shift in the travel industry.

According to a survey by American Express, around 73% of their clients would like to have more digital ways to record their travels, while 56% miss physical stamps in their passports. The introduction of Amex Passport aims to address these desires, combining the nostalgia of physical stamps with the convenience of digital technology.

Users can save their stamps to their gallery or share them on social media, creating a visual record of their travels that can be easily accessed and shared. The world of cryptotechnology is being integrated into various aspects of life, including travel services, and American Express's NFT stamps are a prime example of this trend.
