The Best Time To Visit
The art of salt production at Las Coloradas relies on a unique process: Sea water enters the man-made ponds, evaporates under the burning sun, and is left with red bacteria, plankton, and a thick layer of white salt at the bottom.
If you visit the lakes when they've recently been filled with sea water, they'll appear more orange and brown rather than their signature pink. The ideal time to visit is just before the salt is harvested, when the lakes' water level is low. The precise harvest schedule remains unclear, but in our past visits, we've found that October served as the perfect month, boasting the boldest pink shades of all.
Keeping in mind that wind and cloud cover can impact the lakes' appearance, a touch of luck is advised as well!

Located off the beaten path, Las Coloradas might require a bit of a trek to reach but trust us, every single mile is worth it.
