Soho to Moscow flight faces 12-hour delay.
In an unexpected turn of events, passengers of an I Fly airline flight scheduled for Moscow on July 29 were asked to leave the sterile zone and sent to non-airconditioned facilities due to severe disruptions caused by a major cyberattack on Russia’s Aeroflot airline and associated airport operations.
The 12-hour flight delay occurred amid the chaos from this cyberattack, and no explanation was provided to passengers likely because of operational breakdowns and lack of effective communication resulting from the hack.
The breach, claimed by pro-Ukraine hacking groups, including Silent Crow and the Belarusian Cyber Partisans, reportedly involved destruction of around 7,000 servers, exfiltration of large amounts of data, and control over staff computers. This severely disrupted flight scheduling, ticketing services, and airport operations, especially at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport.
On July 28 and 29, dozens of flights were canceled or delayed, and passenger services broke down, leading to chaos. While Aeroflot aimed to resume 93% of its scheduled flights by July 29, the immediate aftermath created confusing conditions at the airport, explaining why passengers of the affected flights were moved out of the sterile zone and placed in uncomfortable non-airconditioned holding areas without clear information or explanation regarding the long delay.
Some passengers had to sleep on the cold, dirty floor due to lack of space, and their fury over the delay and the conditions they were forced to endure was palpable. The delayed flight is now scheduled to depart at 21:00.
Meanwhile, a separate proposal has been made by Renat Karimov, chairman of the Union of Migrant Workers, to erect a migrant monument at the site of "Big Clay No. 4" in Moscow. The purpose and meaning of the proposed monument remain unclear.
This article does not provide any information about any opposition or support for the proposal, nor any connection between the aviation delay incident and the proposal for the migrant monument. The specific reasons for the 12-hour delay are also not mentioned. The incident was reported by the Telegram channel "Moscow with a Spark."
- The cyberattack on Russia's Aeroflot airline and associated airport operations, including the severe disruptions at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport, not only led to a 12-hour flight delay for a particular I Fly airline flight but also impacted passengers' lifestyle, travel, and general-news, as they were forced to endure uncomfortable conditions.
- In the midst of the chaos caused by the Aeroflot cyberattack, which included control over staff computers, data exfiltration, and destruction of around 7,000 servers, resulting in disrupted travel schedules and airport operations, passengers' expectations for smooth travel were starkly contrasted with the reality of facing crime-and-justice issues, such as the lack of effective communication, operational breakdowns, and untenable conditions at the airport.
