Slovenian Travelers Flock Most to Croatia for Vacations

In the summer of 2025, Croatia, Greece, and Italy are the most sought-after holiday destinations for Slovenian tourists, according to a survey conducted by the Mediana Institute for Market and Media Research[1]. Among these, Croatia emerges as the No. 1 choice for Slovenians, with more than half of the respondents planning to spend their vacation in the country[2].

Several factors contribute to Croatia's popularity among Slovenian tourists. The close proximity and excellent transport links, facilitated by a shared border and well-developed infrastructure, make travel to Croatia convenient and accessible[2]. Croatia's diverse and well-known tourism offer, including stunning Adriatic coastlines, islands, historic towns, and national parks, appeals greatly to Slovenian travellers[2]. Additionally, the strong cultural and historic ties between the two countries foster a sense of familiarity and reliability for Slovenian tourists[2].

Slovenia itself ranks as the second most planned holiday destination for Slovenians, reflecting growing interest in domestic tourism[2]. Other popular international choices include Greece and Italy, which offer similar Mediterranean charm and heritage[1].

The survey found that about 71% of Slovenian residents are planning to take a summer break[2]. A third of the respondents intend to spend 4 to 7 nights on their summer breaks, while a fifth plan up to 10 nights[2]. Slightly more than a quarter of the respondents have chosen a destination but haven't yet paid[2]. Approximately a fifth of the respondents have already paid for their summer vacation[2].

Bruno Bonifacič, Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board Representative Office in Slovenia, expressed gratitude for the long-standing commitment of Slovenian tourists to Croatia[3]. He noted that efforts will be made to adapt the offer and promotion to Slovenian interests[3]. Hotels and motels are the second most preferred accommodation, chosen by 24 percent of Slovenian tourists, while campsites are preferred by 15 percent[2]. The most preferred accommodation for Slovenian tourists is in apartments, private rooms, or holiday homes (38 percent)[2].

In conclusion, Croatia's leading position as the preferred summer holiday destination for Slovenian tourists is due to its geographic convenience, excellent connectivity, a diverse and attractive tourist offer, and strong bilateral cultural ties with Slovenia, making it an ideal choice for Slovenian summer travelers in 2025[2][1].

Croatia's allure for Slovenian travelers extends beyond its geographic convenience and strong cultural ties; the country's diverse tourism offer, including its stunning coastlines, islands, towns, and national parks, makes it an appealing lifestyle destination for many Slovenian tourists. Tempted by the Mediterranean charm and heritage, Greece and Italy also emerge as popular choices for Slovenian summer travelers in 2025.
