Security measures at airports to be adjusted with specific checkpoints for families established by the TSA.
TSA Announces Enhancements to Airport Security Experience for Families
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is making significant strides in improving the airport security experience for families, with the launch of its "Families on the Fly" initiative. The initiative, currently in operation at Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT), is set to expand to several other airports in the coming months.
The "Families on the Fly" initiative includes the provision of dedicated family lanes at security checkpoints, aimed at streamlining the security process for families with young children. The participating airports, as of now, are MCO and CLT, but the TSA has announced plans to expand the programme to John Wayne Orange County Airport (SNA) in California, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii, Charleston International Airport (CHS) in South Carolina, Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) in Florida, Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Puerto Rico, T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) in Rhode Island, and Tampa International Airport (TPA) in Florida.
In addition to the dedicated family lanes, the TSA is also offering a reduced cost for TSA PreCheck enrollment for families. While the specifics of this offer were not detailed in the article, it is a welcome move for families looking to enjoy a smoother and less stressful airport security experience.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced another significant change in TSA procedures - the removal of the requirement to take shoes off during TSA security screenings. This change, effective this summer, marks a major shift in TSA procedures, which has been customary in the U.S. for nearly 20 years.
Adam Stahl, Senior Official Performing the Duties of Deputy TSA Administrator, stated that the DHS and TSA are committed to making the airport security experience smooth and stress-free for families.
Moreover, children can continue to use TSA PreCheck for free when traveling with a parent who has TSA PreCheck. This benefit is valid until Oct. 31, 2025, along with the TSA PreCheck offer of $15 off for two people enrolling together.
The TSA is also testing a separate line at security dedicated just for families in Orlando International Airport and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport as part of the Families on the Fly initiative.
These changes and initiatives are part of the TSA's ongoing efforts to improve the airport security experience for families, making travel more enjoyable and less stressful for all.
