Plane's wing collides with airport window during preparation for takeoff at Richmond International Airport
A wingtip incident on JetBlue flight 1282, bound for Boston, caused a delay and an unexpected return to the gate at Richmond International Airport in Virginia on September 10, 2025.
The incident occurred around 12:10 p.m., during the preparation for the plane to taxi for takeoff. The wingtip of the plane broke apart and shattered a terminal window's glass at the airport.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident. Officials confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe.
Upon the incident, Air Traffic Controllers were not directing the movement of JetBlue flight 1282 as it was still in the gate area. The plane returned to the gate shortly after the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will investigate the incident involving JetBlue flight 1282. JetBlue has also confirmed the incident, and arrangements have been made for another plane to carry passengers on the roughly two-hour flight to Boston, replacing JetBlue flight 1282.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety in aviation, and the FAA's ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of all flights. Passengers are advised to check with JetBlue for updates on their flight schedules.
