Participants nationwide express their enthusiasm during concert series for the group 'KPop Demon Hunters'
In a unique turn of events, the animated Netflix film "KPop Demon Hunters" has taken the nation by storm, as evidenced by the sold-out screenings across the country this weekend. The singalong version of the wildly popular movie is currently screening in theaters for one weekend only, and fans are embracing the opportunity to experience the film on the big screen.
At the Cinemark Century multiplex in Daly City, for instance, there are 62 screenings of the film. E.J. Yanesa, dressed as a character from the movie, was seen in the theater with his children and a group of other parents and kids. Yanesa's family had already watched the film at home, but the theatrical experience was a special treat for them.
The singalong event indicates that fans can't seem to get enough of KPop Demon Hunters. Fans attending the event take selfies in HUNTR/X T-shirts, dance with glow sticks to the songs, and even people who aren't necessarily big K-pop fans, like Jackie Fernandez, enjoy the movie. Fernandez, on her way out of the theater, mentioned that she plans to turn the soundtrack on in her car.
As of Sunday, seven of the songs on the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack were among the top 20 most-played-tracks on Spotify, a testament to the film's popularity. Netflix described the weekend of Demon Hunters singalongs as "a special gift for the fans."
Shawn Robbins, Fandango's director of movie analytics, stated that the KPop Demon Hunters singalong event is highly unusual for a streaming giant like Netflix to work with movie theaters. However, Robbins noted that the theatrical event serves both the fans' desire to experience the film on the big screen and as a promotional means to potentially expose the movie to more people who haven't watched it yet on streaming.
Robbins suggested that the possibilities with the KPop Demon Hunters property are endless. With the film's creators discussing a potential sequel, KPop Demon Hunters could become a major franchise, with possibilities including merchandise, theme parks, and more soundtracks.
Vanessa Selianitis and her daughters Isabella and Olivia attended a screening at the last minute and dressed up in Demon Hunters-themed attire. Selianitis expressed her excitement about the film, stating, "We've been fans of the movie since it came out on Netflix, and we couldn't miss the chance to see it on the big screen."
Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters, produced by Sony Pictures Animation, is set to become Netflix's most-watched film ever. The movie's success is a testament to the power of K-pop and animation, and it's clear that fans can't get enough of this exciting new franchise.
