Pakistan Floods: Punjab Province Devastated, Qatar Charity Steps In

Pakistan's Punjab province has been severely hit by recent floods, with over 4 million people affected. The disaster has claimed over 1,000 lives since June 26, 2023, and caused widespread damage to homes, roads, and livestock. Qatar Charity has stepped in to provide aid, reaching over 52,000 people through medical screening camps.

The floods have destroyed 12,569 homes and washed away 6,509 livestock. Additionally, 1,981 kilometers of roads have been damaged. Qatar Charity's Rapid Needs Assessment identified over 1.57 million people affected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a staggering 4.2 million in Punjab. The organization has distributed 500 hygiene kits and 2,500 dry food baskets to those in need.

In the affected districts of Muzaffargarh, Jhang, Kasur, Okara, and Faisalabad, Christian Solidarity International (CSI) has been distributing food packages and hygiene kits, and operating medical camps. They have also signed an agreement to combat child malnutrition in the flooded districts of Muzaffargarh, Jhang, Kasur, and Okara.

The current floods in Pakistan have resulted in a significant loss of life and property, with estimates suggesting damages could reach $30 billion, similar to the 2022 floods. Qatar Charity's efforts have provided relief to many, with flood victims like Shakir Ullah and Shahnaz Bibi expressing gratitude for the aid received.
