Turkey Sees Growth in Tourism Despite Slight Dips in June 2025
In the summer of 2025, Turkey welcomed a significant number of visitors, with the country recording 25.27 million overnight stays in its hotels during June alone, marking a 2.38 million increase compared to the same month the previous year.
Foreign visitors accounted for a substantial portion of these stays, making up 39.76% of total occupancy in Turkey's hotels. The top foreign visitor sources for Turkey's tourism in 2025 are Russia, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
Russian citizens led the pack, with 3.57 million overnights, followed closely by German nationals with 3.35 million, and British nationals with 2.13 million. The Czech Republic, Ukraine, Romania, Saudi Arabia, and the Netherlands also contributed to the influx of foreign visitors, with overnights ranging from 333,000 to 541,000.
Despite the rise in overnight stays, the overall hotel occupancy rate in Turkey fell from 61.95% in June 2024 to 57.83% in June 2025. Notably, the cities of Aydin, Antalya, and Mugla bucked this trend, boasting hotel occupancy rates of 69.45%, 84.35%, and 65.61%, respectively.
Antalya, Turkey's tourism hub, welcomed a staggering 2.69 million foreign visitors in June 2025, a figure almost equivalent to its resident population. Mugla, another popular destination, recorded 506,596 foreign visitors, with an average stay of 3.44 nights, making it the third city with the highest average overnight stays by foreign visitors.
The city of Aydin, meanwhile, attracted 108,374 foreign visitors, with the highest average stay of 4.94 nights. Antalya held the second-highest average with 4.36 nights, and Mugla followed closely with 3.44 nights.
From January to June 2025, Turkey hosted 26.39 million visitors, a 1% increase from the same period in 2024. Despite a slight decrease in the number of foreign arrivals (21.4 million, down 1.13%), overall tourism revenues saw a significant increase of about 7.6% to nearly $26 billion.
This growth was attributed to increased daily spending and a focus on value-added tourism segments. Despite minor fluctuations, Russia, Germany, and the United Kingdom remain the principal foreign visitor markets for Turkey's tourism in 2025.
Istanbul, a vibrant city in Turkiye, saw an influx of foreign visitors in 2025, particularly from Russia, with Russian citizens contributing 3.57 million overnight stays. Russian tourism played a significant role in Turkey's economy, as the country hosted 26.39 million visitors from January to June, generating nearly $26 billion, marking a 7.6% increase compared to the same period the previous year. As tourists explored the lifestyle and attractions of Turkiye, they discovered various destinations like Aydin, Antalya, and Mugla, contributing to the growth of the Turkish travel industry.
