New County Cider Project Launches in Germany to Support Traditional Orchards

A new county cider project has launched in Germany, aiming to support traditional orchards and their manual harvesting efforts. The project, which aims to collect 3000 kilograms of traditional orchard apples, has set a cider apple price of 23 euros per double centner, with the LEV contributing 8 euros. Interested parties are invited to register by October 8, 2025.

The project seeks healthy, ripe fruits without blemishes, handpicked and ready for cider production. Late, well-ripened varieties are particularly suitable. Small quantities are welcome. For more information, contact the advisory service for fruit and vegetable growing at the department of agriculture. The fruit collection will take place on October 11, 2025, from 2 to 4 PM at the OGV teaching garden of OGV Sachsenheim.

This initiative contributes to the preservation of cultural landscapes, home to endangered species like the little owl, small pearl-bordered fritillary, and seven-spotted ladybird. Interested parties should register via email, providing their name, location, phone number, and estimated delivery quantity.
