New Chinese Airlines Enforcement of Mandatory Power Bank Certification for Passengers' Electronic Devices
From June 28, 2025, power banks carried on domestic flights within China must display the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) mark. This regulation, enforced by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), aims to enhance flight safety and reduce fire hazards from lithium-ion batteries.
The CCC mark is a standard safety approval recognised in China, ensuring products meet mandatory safety and quality standards. Power banks without the CCC logo, with unclear or faded markings, or those from recalled batches are prohibited from being carried on board.
Airports are implementing enhanced security checks and public awareness campaigns about the safety risks associated with non-compliant power banks. Passengers are advised to check the new regulations before flying and may be asked to discard, store, or mail non-compliant power banks to prevent unsafe devices from being carried onto flights.
The CAAC's regulation follows a series of in-flight fire incidents and mass product recalls by major brands such as Anker and Romoss due to battery defects. The ban applies to all domestic flights within China and currently does not affect international flights. However, usage restrictions may apply on international flights.
Travelers within China are advised to verify that their power banks carry a clear CCC mark before flying to avoid confiscation or inconvenience. This move also aligns with wider market regulations requiring CCC certification for power bank manufacturing and sales since August 2024.
