Nearly 350 Educators Gather for Healthy Classrooms and Emergency Preparedness
Educators gathered at the Discovery Lab's Educator Appreciation Night on August 8, 2024, to discuss and promote healthy classrooms. Nearly 350 teachers attended the event at 3123 Riverside Dr, Tulsa, OK, focusing on disease prevention and emergency preparedness.
The event encouraged teachers to engage students in creating a 'Healthy Classroom Heroes' poster, reminding everyone of crucial healthy habits. Hand washing was highlighted as the most vital behavior for keeping classrooms germ-free. Other suggested behaviors included sanitizing hands after blowing the nose, not sharing food or drinks, and sneezing into the elbow.
To make the poster interactive, a 'Classroom Health Pledge' was suggested. Educators also participated in various activities such as a quiz game center on diseases, a 'Don't Bug Me' booth, and a 'go-fish' game for emergency preparedness. Teachers were advised to build a 'Classroom Go-Bag' for emergencies, including essentials like a first aid kit, flashlight, snacks, water bottles, and sanitizing wipes. Additional items suggested were books, umbrellas, backup cell phones, sunscreen, masks, and whistles. The Go-Bag should also contain contact information, a list of students, and any necessary medication like EpiPens or allergy lists.
The Discovery Lab's Educator Appreciation Night successfully brought together nearly 350 educators to discuss and implement strategies for maintaining healthy classrooms and preparing for emergencies. Teachers left the event equipped with ideas to engage students in promoting healthy habits and ensuring classroom safety.
