Investigating the True-to-Life White Lotus Experience

The HBO series "The White Lotus," which explores themes of white privilege, colonialism, and rich people behaving badly, has become a popular show. The luxurious Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, where the cast and crew lived and worked during the filming of the first season, serves as the perfect backdrop for this captivating drama.

The series accurately depicts the resort's high-end amenities, stunning natural surroundings, and the high level of service that the Four Seasons brand is known for. The real Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is renowned for its beautiful beaches, lush gardens, and upscale facilities, which are all featured prominently in the show.

However, the show takes creative liberties to enhance the storylines and characters, so the portrayal is not entirely accurate. For instance, the series highlights the tensions and conflicts among both guests and staff in a way that may not reflect the typical experiences of visitors to the resort.

The resort's Maile Presidential Suite, which rents for $26,000 a night, was used as the Tradewinds Suite in the show, where the Mossbacher family stayed. The suite, with its three bedrooms, offers a spacious and luxurious retreat for those seeking a lavish getaway.

During the author's stay at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, they participated in the Malama Hawaii program, a volunteer experience run in collaboration with the Pacific Whale Foundation. This program allows visitors to clean up the beach and log debris for the foundation's records, contributing to the preservation of the resort's pristine environment.

The author also had the pleasure of enjoying a meal at Kitoko Maui, a food truck owned by Cole Hinueber, a French-trained pastry chef. The meal was the best the author had during their stay, showcasing the culinary excellence that the resort offers.

The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea offers a variety of experiences for its guests, from lei-making classes and ukulele lessons to a $26,450 helicopter tour of local sites. The resort's wellness clinic, Next|Health, even offers IV therapy treatments.

Despite the show's portrayal, emotional breakdowns during spa treatments are not common at the resort's spa. However, the author did encounter a guest who acted like a character from "The White Lotus" during their stay.

As for the future, there is a rumour that season two of "The White Lotus" might film in the South of France. If this is true, it will be interesting to see how the series captures the essence of a new location while maintaining its signature blend of luxury, drama, and social commentary.
