The competition kicked off at Carmichael Park at 1 p.m. on Friday, with an open cry taking place at the farmers market at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The highlight of the event was a theme cry at Carmichael Park at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Mayor Nancy Dicks expressed her excitement about the event in a news release, stating that it would bring uplifting energy and talent to New Glasgow. The event is also expected to showcase the breadth and versatility of today's town criers.
In addition to the competition, a film crew from New York City is reportedly recording the event for a movie about contemporary town criers. However, the specifics of their involvement are not yet clear.
