In the Neighborhood: Could a Snitch Commit Sins?
Nestled amidst the pulsating heart of St. Pauli lies the inviting storefront of Blumen und Feinkost Schnalke. We tag along with the proprietors, Uwe and Marlies Schnalke, as they navigate the ebb and flow of their day-to-night establishment, sharing more about their establishment's journey and the neighborhood's dynamic transformation.
Fresh blooms and an ever-changing lunch menu, transformed into an evening rendezvous for a mixed crowd – the Schnalke store attracts an eclectic clientele.
Over three decades on St. Pauli, Uwe and Marlies, the owners, started with a butcher's shop. Soon they noticed their customers were buying less meat – a new idea was necessary.
They decided to transition into a gourmet shop, and post-business hours, they dove headfirst into the renovations. However, changes extended beyond the shop's facelift – their customers and the neighborhood continued evolving. Initially, the Schnalkes just tweaked their opening hours. Later on, a bar area joined the mix, evolving into a hotspot in Hamburg's vibrant nightlife scene, drawing patrons from all corners of the city.
"Schnalke is like a home for our customers," Uwe grins. Everyone is welcome here. Marlies and Uwe refer to themselves as the Dreamteam, and it's hard to argue, for these two are the soul and heart of the store. Curious? Check out the entire video here:
