Himachal Set for Expansion as Prominent Ecotourism Hub
Himachal Pradesh, renowned for its rich biodiversity and picturesque landscapes, is set to enhance its tourism offerings with a focus on eco-tourism. In a two-day International Conference on 'Eco-Tourism Potential in Himachal Pradesh', recently inaugurated by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, the Government announced its ambitious plans to develop eco-tourism circuits in collaboration with the private sector.
The conference, organised by the State Forest Department and Eco-Tourism Society of Himachal Pradesh, was attended by various national and international experts in the field of eco-tourism. The Chief Minister revealed that the Government has identified 113 sites for eco-tourism development, although specific details for each site are yet to be disclosed.
Among the key announcements, the Government plans to develop three eco-tourism hubs in the current financial year. These hubs will offer unique and sustainable experiences, with a focus on adventure tourism. To support these developments, the Government will provide necessary infrastructure for the development of log huts for tourist stays in the new destinations.
Jai Ram Thakur also stated that 25 new destinations would be developed with log huts for tourist stays. The Government is encouraging the youth of the State to take up entrepreneurship opportunities in the eco-tourism sector, as these developments are expected to generate employment and self-employment opportunities.
In addition, the Government is preparing to send thirty-one eco-tourism circuits for approval to the Centre for further development. The State Forest Department and Eco-Tourism Society of Himachal Pradesh invited these experts to share their knowledge and experiences, aiming to attract more tourists by offering unique and sustainable eco-tourism experiences.
The Government is also focusing on promoting local community involvement and environmental education at these sites. This includes preservation of natural habitats, promotion of local handicrafts and culture, regulated tourism activities to prevent ecological damage, and creation of awareness programs for visitors about environmental conservation.
Five sites have been given on PPP mode, 16 to the State Forest Department, and 47 to HP State Forest Corporation. The conference took place at Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali in Kullu district.
For more detailed information on the 113 eco-tourism sites and their development plans, including locations, facilities, and planned projects, it is recommended to consult official Himachal Pradesh tourism government releases or contact the Ecotourism Society of Himachal Pradesh. The Government is committed to promoting sustainable tourism practices that conserve natural resources and local culture, making Himachal Pradesh an attractive destination for eco-conscious travellers.
Science and environmental science are expected to play crucial roles in the development and success of the eco-tourism circuits announced by the Government of Himachal Pradesh. Finance, in the form of investments in infrastructure and entrepreneurship opportunities, will be essential for the creation of unique and sustainable lifestyle experiences for tourists. Travel to these eco-tourism sites will not only offer adventure tourism but also provide opportunities to learn about local communities, their traditions, and the importance of environmental conservation.
