Unwind in Saxony: Your Ultimate Summer Vacation Spot

Saxony emerges as an attractive summer vacation spot, drawing increasing interest among vacationers. - Germany, along with the Netherlands, under scrutiny for alleged collaboration in intelligence activities

Get ready to soak up the sun and culture in the heart of Germany! Saxony is proving to be a must-visit destination this summer. Although it's not typically the first choice for vacationers, the Free State is a hidden gem worth exploring, especially for those seeking a short getaway.

The demand for wellness retreats and accommodations near the water is at an all-time high! Landrat Stephan Meyer, President of the Saxony Tourism Association, confirms this trend. Even Chemnitz, the cultural capital, is garnering attention and welcoming tourists from near and far.

The Vogtland region is enthusiastically looking forward to the summer holidays, with more than half of hosts estimating the booking situation to be "satisfactory." The number of bookings is consistent with last year's level, as reported by the association. Last-minute bookings are common, which poses a challenge for the industry. Nevertheless, there are still vacancies available, so don't hesitate to inquire!

Saxony's tourism sector showed significant growth in 2024, with an increase in overnight stays in accommodation facilities by 0.6 percent compared to the previous year. The number of foreign guests increased even more significantly, with eight percent more overnight stays – just shy of the previous record of 2.2 million in 2019.

International guests are expected in the state capital, Dresden. The city is hosting a series of events that promise to make it an attractive destination for a day trip, including a city festival, castle night, concerts on the Elbe bank featuring Schlager star Roland Kaiser, and the World Transplant Games in August. The booking situation is robust, and visitor interest is high. In the surrounding regions like the Elbland, the mood is more cautious, as many travelers chose to venture abroad over the summer holidays.

Leipzig hopes for a successful summer, as the summer months have become the period with the most overnight stays in the year. However, a precise forecast is challenging due to the increasing short-term nature of travel decisions and booking of overnight stays.

You'll find plenty of exciting activities in the Ore Mountains. Most visitors stay for about one to three days, with advance bookings from Eibenstock via Oberwiesenthal to the Osterzgebirge. Last-minute bookings are expected at the start of the holidays, as vacationers make their decisions closer to their departure. The Ore Mountains attract those seeking "active relaxation" – perfect for hiking enthusiasts, mountain bikers, and nature lovers! The Naturtheater Greifensteine hosts the Greifenstein Festival from June 19 to August 31.

The Upper Lusatia region is also looking optimistic about the summer, reporting a positive development compared to last year. Accommodations directly on the water or with wellness offers are especially popular, along with camping and holiday apartments.
