France Tops Global Tourism with 8% More Visitors in 2024
France has solidified its position among the world's top tourist destinations, attracting 8% more visitors than the previous year. This surge in tourism was driven by a significant increase in visitors from neighbouring countries and Europe, while Asia saw a slight decline.
France welcomed nearly half of its tourists from the near abroad, with a staggering 57% increase last summer. Meanwhile, Europe contributed to this growth, with France itself seeing a 50% increase in European visitors, pushing it into the top ten. Austria also experienced an 8% rise in visitors.
Among the countries with notable increases, Belarus ranked third with a 79% surge in visitors. Kazakhstan came in second with a 95% increase, while Uzbekistan placed fourth with an 84% rise. Thailand showed an impressive fivefold increase in visitors, although it did not crack the top ten in terms of total arrivals.
Despite a slight decrease in Asian visitors, led by China's 8% drop, France's tourist industry thrived last year. The increase in visitors from Europe and the near abroad, coupled with significant growth from several other countries, has positioned France as a top global destination.
