Europe's Responsible Tourism Awards 2025 set for an October gathering in Brussels
The travel industry is set to recognise excellence in sustainable tourism practices as the Europe Responsible Tourism Awards (RTAs) take centre stage on 16 October at the Press Club Brussels Europe. This year marks the first time Europe has its own regional awards, with the event coinciding with the final day of the EU's European Week of Regions and Cities.
The awards ceremony, sponsored by easyJet holidays, will honour initiatives that deliver measurable impact, inspire others, and showcase innovative approaches to sustainability in travel. The event is supported by a distinguished judging panel, including Kerry Carmichael, founder of Echo, and Professor Emeritus Harold Goodwin, founder of ICRT Global.
Other members of the panel include Kirsi Hyvaerinen, consultant for ICRT Balkans; Caroline Warburton, director of ICRT Global from Visit Scotland; Vicky Smith, from Earthchangers and ICRT Balkans; and Scott Lawson, senior ESG manager at easyJet holidays. Debbie Hindle, chair of ICRT Global, will also be present, having stated that the organisations on the recognition list have demonstrated clear evidence, replicability, innovation, influence, sustainability, and an overall commitment to responsible tourism.
The Europe RTAs recognise excellence in six categories: nature positive, climate adaptation and resilience, peace understanding and inclusion, managing waste, increasing local sourcing, and responsible all-inclusives.
The winners will be presented with either a One to Watch, Silver, or Gold accolade at the Brussels ceremony. Gold winners from the Europe RTAs will advance to the 2025 Global Responsible Tourism Awards, sponsored by Sabre. The global shortlist for these awards has already been released.
The European winners will compete for a Global Responsible Tourism Award against winners from other regions. The organisations nominated for the 2025 Global Sustainable Tourism Awards in the category 'Europe' are ten outstanding hotel projects across six countries: A by Adina Vienna Danube (Vienna, Austria), Bikini Island & Mountain Hotel Es Trenc (Mallorca, Spain), Chiemgauhof-Lakeside Retreat (Upper Bavaria, Germany), CityHub Reykjavik (Iceland), Cocoon Theresienwiese (Munich, Germany), eriro Alpine hide (Tyrol, Austria), Hotel Dips & Drops (Salzburg, Austria), Moxy Istanbul Taksim (Istanbul, Turkey), Revier Mountain Lodge Saas-Fee (Switzerland), and WALD.WEIT Rheingau Hotel & Retreat (Kiedrich, Germany).
António Buscardini, founder and Editor-in-Chief of a well-known website, will also be present at the awards ceremony. The Europe Responsible Tourism Awards celebrate initiatives that are not just good for the environment, but also for the local communities and economies they operate in.
The RTAs were founded in 2004 and have established events in Africa, Latin America, the Indian Subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. The Europe RTAs are a significant step towards recognising and promoting responsible tourism on a global scale.
