EU Boosts Yemen Aid to €120 Million in 2025 to Fight Famine and Health Crisis

The European Commission has stepped up its support for Yemen, announcing an additional €40 million in humanitarian aid. This brings the total EU assistance for the war-torn country to €120 million in 2025, and nearly €1 billion since 2015. The funding will help tackle the severe food insecurity and health crisis gripping Yemen.

The EU is the largest donor to Yemen's humanitarian response, having already provided €80 million this year. The latest allocation of €40 million comes from the EU's emergency funding reserves. The aid will be used to provide urgent food, nutrition, and health insurance assistance to districts at highest risk of famine.

The situation in Yemen is dire, with nearly 2 million children malnourished, half a million critically so. The health system is close to collapse, with disease outbreaks spreading due to lack of funds. The EU Humanitarian Air Bridge operation has delivered over 432 tonnes of medicines and life-saving supplies to help combat this. A significant portion of the EU's humanitarian assistance is supported through cash transfers to aid recipients.

The EU's commitment to Yemen is clear, with the bloc remaining a key partner in UN-led efforts for regional stability. The latest funding brings the EU's total humanitarian support for Yemen to €120 million in 2025, demonstrating the EU's dedication to addressing the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the country.
