Dresden Leads Europe's Push for Climate-Neutral Mobility

Dresden is spearheading Europe's drive for climate-neutral mobility. The city is one of two pilot sites for the 'MOBILITIES for EU' project, a five-year initiative involving 28 institutions. The goal? To develop new business fields and adapt processes for cities across Greece, Slovakia, Finland, Poland, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The project aims to address transport's significant role in Europe's energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Responsible for over 30% of the continent's energy use and being the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases, transport is a critical sector in the fight against climate change. The 'MOBILITIES for EU' project focuses on electrification, automation, and connectivity to accelerate the transition to climate-neutral traffic.

Dresden will demonstrate the effectiveness of 27 mobility solutions in 11 pilot actions. These include autonomous electric buses and a decentralized data ecosystem for automated driving. The results from these pilot measures, along with those from the 'NEUTRALPATH' project, will be used to create a 'Climate-City-Contract' for Dresden. This is part of the EU mission '100 climate-neutral and intelligent cities by 2030'.

The 'MOBILITIES for EU' project, with Dresden as a key player, is a significant step towards Europe's 2050 climate-neutral goal. By 2030, 112 cities, including Dresden, aim to achieve this target. The project's success will pave the way for other European municipalities to adopt sustainable mobility solutions, contributing to a greener, more efficient transport system.
