Development of Wagah Heritage Corridor Progresses Aggressively: Maryam
The Wagah Heritage Corridor, a 13-kilometer-long tourism highway in Lahore, Pakistan, has been completed as of August 2025. This dedicated tourism highway aims to enhance travel facilities and boost tourism in the region.
The corridor was launched in January 2025 with an allocated budget of approximately Rs 2.85 billion. It was executed under the guidance of the Punjab government and was inaugurated shortly after completion in mid-August 2025. The highway connects the city of Lahore to the famous Wagah border, a major site for visitors, particularly known for the Wagah border ceremony.
The corridor is designed to provide top-class travel infrastructure and facilities for visitors. It is being widened from both sides to provide better travel facilities, and modern solar streetlights are being installed along the highway. A two-way tourism highway, it is 68 feet wide, with 20 feet wide service roads on both sides. Additionally, a 10-kilometer decorative wall is being built.
A more significant development is the construction of a 22-kilometer long RCC drainage system to address the long-standing problem of the local people. The completion of the project is expected to solve this issue, providing world-class travel facilities to tourists visiting the Wagah Border.
Meanwhile, the Punjab chief minister has encouraged students to apply for meritorious scholarships with confidence and study with passion. As of now, 50,000 students are benefiting from their Honhar Scholarship, and another 30,000 scholarships are being given. The chief minister expressed her pride in students' success and advised them never to stop believing in what they want to achieve. In total, she stated that 80,000 young minds have been given wings to flourish and fly through the Honhar Scholarship Programme.
Furthermore, a portal for Honhar Scholarships has been reopened for Punjab students. The scholarship programme has been opening new doors for students in 67 future-proof disciplines.
The chief minister also paid tribute to the security forces for killing 14 more terrorists of Fitna-ul-Khawarij in Zhob, Balochistan. She praised the sacrifices and bravery of the soldiers of the Pakistan Army, stating that Pakistan's soldiers have the ability to destroy enemies, regardless of location.
The Wagah Heritage Corridor is a landmark development to facilitate tourism and improve transportation along this crucial route. It is hoped that this project will significantly contribute to the tourism industry in Pakistan and provide better travel experiences for both locals and tourists.
