Day of Struggle in Neu-Isenburg: a clear demonstration of tolerance and humanitarian values

On Saturday, 14th September 2019, the city of Neu-Isenburg hosted the "Defend Yourself" event at Hugenottenhalle. The day was organised to promote self-defense techniques, civil courage, and violence prevention, and was supported by the federal program "Democracy lives!".

The event was a powerful testament to the importance of self-defense and civil courage in society. Krav Maga trainers emphasised the significance of avoiding fights whenever possible, with the best fight being the one that doesn't happen.

City Council President Christine Wagner was among the many visitors who showed their support for the positive message of the day. Christoph Singer from the "Partnership for Democracy Neu-Isenburg" presented the federal program "Democracy lives!", which financially supported the event and made it possible.

The association "Tuğc̈e Albayrak e.V.", founded by the family of Tuğc̈e Albayrak who tragically lost her life in 2014, was also present at the event. Tuğc̈e died from the consequences of a punch after bravely defending two girls from harassment. Doğuş Albayrak, Tuğc̈e's brother, delivered a moving speech about his sister's life and her courage.

Selatthin Gü̂lṣel, founder of Selagym, led a training session for children of different ages and backgrounds, reflecting the spirit of respect and tolerance. The "Defend Yourself - Krav Maga School" and "Selagym Gravenbruch" demonstrated their skills in a boxing ring, providing visitors with an opportunity to witness the practical application of self-defense techniques.

The organisers of the event also discussed how combat sport techniques can help prevent violence without being misused themselves. Christoph Singer emphasised the importance of such events in promoting democracy and civil courage in society. The main focus of the event was on peaceful exchange and respectful interaction, despite its fight-themed title.

Unfortunately, the search results do not provide information about which organisation supported the event "Kampftag" in Neu-Isenburg on Saturday, 14th September 2024. However, the success of the 2019 event serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for events that promote self-defense, civil courage, and violence prevention.

In Germany, it is a sobering fact that in 2023, 155 women died at the hands of their (ex-)partner, and every third woman becomes a victim of sexualized or physical violence at least once in her life. Events like "Defend Yourself" are crucial in empowering individuals and encouraging communities to take a stand against violence.
