Central Library Hosts Manga Day in 2025
On September 27, from 11 am to 4 pm, the Children's and Youth Library at Steinsche Gasse 26 in Duisburg is hosting a Manga Day event. This exciting day is free to attend and open to all ages 10 and up, with no registration required.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of manga, with the library's own collection showcased and available for free checkout with a library card. For those interested in creating their own manga characters, artist Jen Satora will lead an open workshop suitable for beginners and advanced alike.
The event will also feature an exhibition on the origins, styles, and themes of manga, providing a fascinating insight into this popular art form. For those who are fans of manga, cosplayers are invited to show off their costumes and pose for a photo opportunity in the unique setting of the library.
To add to the excitement, there will be a manga quiz testing knowledge on classics and current hits, as well as a media sale offering low-priced manga for purchase. The proceeds from the media sale will benefit the Duisburg Library Foundation.
For a taste of traditional Japanese culture, Wagokoro e.V. will provide a kimono try-on, allowing visitors to wear traditional Japanese clothing. There will also be a spin-the-wheel and traditional Japanese games like ring toss or balloon fishing available for extra excitement and fun.
As a special treat, twenty-eight exclusive manga special editions will be given away for free to visitors. The details of the event, including the poster, can be found on the website www.stadtbibliothek-unser.de.
So, whether you're a manga fan, a cosplayer, or a creative mind, come along to the Manga Day event and join in the fun!
