Casino mogul disputes overstated assertions about decline in Las Vegas's gaming industry
Las Vegas Tourism and Circa Resort & Casino: A Look at June 2025 Statistics and Derek Stevens' Perspective
In the heart of Las Vegas, the tourism industry has been facing a challenging year, with visitor numbers dropping significantly. According to a recent report by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), the number of visitors to Las Vegas in June 2025 was 3.1 million, a decrease of 11.3% compared to June 2020.
The decline in tourism has been particularly noticeable in the summer months and international arrivals. Californians, the largest visitor group, have been traveling less, and international tourism, including high rollers from Mexico and Canada, has also decreased.
However, the June gaming numbers, recently released by the LVCVA, show that not everything is terrible in Las Vegas tourism. Despite fewer visitors, gambling revenue overall is still up by 3.5%, indicating some offset in spending per visitor.
Regarding Circa Resort & Casino, a major new downtown Las Vegas resort that opened in late 2020 and has been well-reviewed, there is no direct mention in the recent reports or data about its current status amid this tourism downturn.
Derek Stevens, CEO of Circa Resort & Casino, expressed a similar sentiment during an interview conducted by Fox News Digital. He stated that some of the data about Las Vegas tourism might be exaggerated. Stevens believes that the city is not an experience of the past, as some people are calling it, and that some assessments of Las Vegas tourism being down may be premature.
