Benitachell Experiences a Literary Boom in August

New Literary Festival "Literatura a la fresca" Kicks Off in El Poble Nou de Benitachell

From August 11 to 22, 2025, the charming town of El Poble Nou de Benitachell will play host to a vibrant new literary festival, "Literatura a la fresca." The event is a collaborative effort between Cláсicas y Modernas, the Town Council, and their respective Departments of Culture and Equality.

The festival aims to bring together writers, literature enthusiasts, and the local community, offering a diverse range of activities such as stories, music, and cultural memory events. The main event of the festival, a literary evening ("vetla literària"), will take place on Friday, August 22 at 8:00 PM at the Social Center of El Poble Nou de Benitachell.

The literary evening promises to be a highlight, featuring local writers Empar Ferrer, Gabriel Gilabert, Toni Pascuali, and Josep Colomer, who will read extracts from their works. The evening will also see Carme Manuel, president of the Maria Beneyto Commission, and Rosa María Rodríguez Magda, philosopher and writer, giving a talk to conclude the Maria Beneyto Year during the festival.

The festival encourages local associations to participate in the literary evenings, and the first two sessions of the reading club for the book "Return to the City of the Sea" by María Beneyto took place during the festival at the local library on August 1 and August 14.

The Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua has paid tribute to the literary career of María Beneyto as part of its ongoing programme to recognize Valencian women writers of the post-war period. María Beneyto was named 2025 Writer of the Year by the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua.

In addition to the literary evenings, the festival offers outdoor exhibitions and literary games for children, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the world of literature and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of El Poble Nou de Benitachell. Clásicas y Modernas and Councillors Jorge Pascual (Culture) and Isa Garrido invite everyone to participate in the festival's programme.

The organizers hope to continue the vibrant literary festival in future editions, fostering a love for literature and promoting community spirit in El Poble Nou de Benitachell. Stay tuned for more updates on the "Literatura a la fresca" festival.
