In the heart of Spain, the small town of Fuendetodos has recently become a beacon for art enthusiasts. The town, which saw Francisco de Goya, one of the most celebrated painters in history, born and grow up, has welcomed back a piece of its cultural heritage.

During the Goyesque Festival, Antonio López was named 'Fuendetodos Majos 2025'. This honour was bestowed upon him following the completion and installation of a remarkable bronze sculpture of Francisco de Goya, a project that had been driven by Juan Valdez, the Councilor for Culture. The sculpture, a collaboration between López and Andrés García Ibáñez, was completed in 2003 and now stands proudly at the Museo del Prado in Madrid.

However, the town of Fuendetodos was always its intended destination. López promised to install the sculpture in Goya's house, a promise he has kept. The sculpture, standing 1.80 meters tall, now greets visitors at the entrance of the house where Goya lived until he was 6 years old.

The sculpture is a robust figure, capturing Goya in the prime of his life with an energetic tone. The head was modeled from self-portraits of Goya in his maturity, while the body was based on the vocal sessions of singer and actor Augusto González. The sculpture, recalling Renaissance workshops, is a joint work, with the artists trying to renounce individuality to create a shared work.

For García Ibáñez, the sculpture is not just a work of art but also a declaration of love for his own town. He considers Goya as his "patron saint" and has emotionally recounted modeling the head of the sculpture. The mayor of Fuendetodos considers the sculpture an "authentic gift" and a work signed by the renowned Antonio López and García Ibáñez.

The Goyesque Festival in Fuendetodos has transformed the town into an 18th-century stage. The festival featured the spectacular figure of the sculptors López and García Ibáñez, and the Cultural Goyescos Association of Fuendetodos has carried out the representation of the painting 'The threshing floor' and the distribution of migas.

As the town continues to celebrate its most illustrious native son, the Fuendetodos City Council plans to continue devising activities to highlight Francisco de Goya as their most illustrious neighbour. Nearly two centuries after his death, Goya's spirit continues to live on in Fuendetodos, making it a must-visit destination for art lovers.
