An American Tastes McDonald's in the UK for the First Time and Laments Its Healthy Options

A group of three Americans, led by Amber Kacherian, embarked on a culinary journey across the pond to the United Kingdom. Their destination of choice? McDonald's.

For Amber, this was her first visit to the UK, and she was eager to try out the local flavours. One of the items on her list was the limited-time Green Apple X Sprite drink, a beverage not available in the US.

Upon trying the drink, Amber shared her thoughts on her TikTok account, @amberkacherian. However, she noted a difference in the salt content of UK food compared to American food, finding the fries 'just sad potatoes with no salt'.

The group also tried the mozzarella sticks with a salsa dip. While the mozzarella sticks were enjoyable, the salsa dip left a bitter aftertaste, according to Amber and her friends.

Another item on the menu that caught their attention was the McFlurry with Smarties. Amber tried it and found it to be different from American Smarties. Her travelling companion commented on the cardboard spoon used in the McFlurry, noting it to be more environmentally friendly.

Interestingly, all sodas in McDonald's UK are either diet or zero sugar. Regular sodas are located at the bottom of the on-screen menu, a departure from the usual placement in the US.

McDonald's UK also has a drink bin for customers to separate liquid and ice from cups before disposal, a practice not commonly seen in the US.

Despite the differences, Amber and her friends were left puzzled about the appeal of McDonald's in the UK due to the lower salt and fat content compared to American food. They found the Quarter Pounder to be 'palatable', but still a far cry from their American counterparts.

However, the Smarties McFlurry in the UK is more similar to M&M's, offering a sweet treat for those with a sweet tooth.

In conclusion, Amber Kacherian's UK McDonald's adventure was a mixed bag of experiences. While some items did not meet her expectations, others offered a unique twist on familiar favourites. Her TikTok account continues to document her culinary journeys, offering insights into the food culture of different countries.
